PAC, through unique molecular structures, binds to adhesins (virulent factors associated with the adhesion of bacteria to epithelial cells). They work by inhibiting different types of adhesins on the hair-like fimbriae that protrude from the surface of bacteria. One is fructose, which inhibits MS fimbrial adhesins, the other is a high molecular weight inhibitor that neutralizes MR adhesins, preventing colonization in the bladder. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins can prevent struvite-mediated peroxidative damage by restoring the intracellular activity of antioxidant enzymes, increasing the action and effectiveness of SOD. The average time for dissolving stones is: 8 weeks for struvite caused by infection and 2 to 4 weeks for sterile struvite stones.
